LYNDONVILLE- It is never too soon to start thinking about ways to help other people. A 7-year-old girl named Elise Guzman, along with her friends, decided to contribute to Helping Other People Everyday.
Guzman and her friends decided to give H.O.P.E. a donation, what they called "Friends For Change."
The Friends For Change donation was randomly given, because Guzman feels it is something that H.O.P.E. deserves, "HOPE helps everyone else. We wanted to try to help them," she explains.
Friends For Change was all about collecting donations from the community to help H.O.P.E in any way they needed.
Guzman and her friends spent the past weekend raising money. Together, the group raised $16. To some, the ammount may seem a bit small. However, to others? Let's just say $16 was enough to fill a child's backpack with food as part of H.O.P.E.'s "Backpack Program."
The Backpack Program is available at H.O.P.E. for any child who may not be able to eat during the weekend. Guidance counselors or other school authorities contact H.O.P.E. if they suspect that one of their students is not receiving the adequate amount of meals that they should be.
The child is then discreetly given a backpack to take home for the weekend that is filled with nutritious easy to make meals.
Guzman and her friends have shown that people can not only take from H.O.P.E., but they can also give back.
