Democrats_in_Lyndon.jpgLYNDON- The 2014 election season kicked off on Sunday at Lyndon Institute's Cafeteria. Many politicians were in Lyndon like Democrat Speaker of the House, Shap Smith, who said he had bills that he would love to see get passed in the heart of the capitol in the last two weeks of this legislative session

"Over the next couple weeks we will be working on a bill that will promote jobs and economical development in the state of Vermont by making investments in small employers and firms. Will also probably working on a bill that would promote companies to put more money in their businesses," Smith said.

Lt. Governor John Bauer thinks his public financing campaign is a way to show that politicians don't need to be heavily donated to win elections. "So what it is that you gather 750 contributions from Vermont Voters no more than 50 dollars and as much as $17,500 dollars. If you get that then you can qualify for matching funds from the state. It is now enough to be competitive in running a state wide race." With that money Bauer believes he will be able to run for state.

Claudette Sortino is getting ready for her chance to run in Caledonia's First District bringing a lot of close to home issues, including the Blue Mountain Unions budget that did not pass three days ago.

"We have wonderful programing in that school. We have a great staff and teachers in that school but people just don't want to pay for education any more and they believe that they would get taxed way to much."
