Pathway Progress

walkingbridgeLYNDONVILLE- Lyndon Institute students will soon have a new dedicated pathway. It will cross their campus into town on the walk bridge behind the municipal building. Construction on a new pathway began on November 25th, and is now going to make easy access for students, and will be friendlier on their feet.

"What this does is designate their route between the two fields so they don't damage the fields," said Peter Holbrook, the foreman for the project. "It just gives them a clear cut good walking path between the two fields."

The footbridge is undergoing some upgrades as well.

"We did some work underneath the bridge, putting some big stone called rip rap, and that should help when the water comes up high, that rock will just protect the abutments of the bridge," said Holbrook.

Twelve inches of gravel will be laid onto the walkway, instead of the current dirt layer, which should offset some of the mess that has occurred when mud season comes around.

“The new pathway will keep the students from getting their feet quite as wet during mud season,” said Assistant Head for Campus Life of Lyndon Institute Rob Heath. “The surface is more resistant to getting soggy, whereas with dirt you have mud.”

But what was it like before the path was constructed?

"There was no designated footpath from the side of the bridge, and the kids would kind of just walk wherever," said Holbrook.

Construction on the project was supposed to be completed by December 20th, but it looks as if this project is moving well ahead of schedule. It should be finished by the end of next week, putting it a week ahead of its intended completion date.
