LYNDONVILLE - $250,000 grants funded by the Chase Bank and its supporters will be awarded to twelve small businesses nationwide. Four Lyndonville Businesses have high hopes of being awarded the grant, known as Mission Main Street.
Applications for the grant are due before midnight on October 31st. So far, Green Mountain Books and Prints, The Freighthouse, the Village Sport Shop, and the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center have applied, while other local businesses are working to get their grants in.
Small businesses applying for the grant are promoting their business via their Facebook pages. These pages have links, sending them to a page where they can vote for a given business. Businesses need 250 votes before November 15th to be eligible for the grant.
Because the grant is available nationwide, the chances of winning are small. However, Freighthouse Manager Bonnie Paris points out that "If you don't try, you don't have a chance." Paris goes on to say "We counted at least 60 businesses that our business touches out to and supports, so if we win this, they all do too."
Village Sport Shop Co-Owner Carrie Tomczyk chimed in as well, saying "We try not to hammer people with Facebook or things like that, but for an opportunity like this, we'll pull out all the stops."
Small businesses have nearly three more weeks to promote via Facebook before the November 15th deadline, before playing the waiting game. The complete list of grant winners will be posted on the program website in January.
