caledonia airportLYNDON - With the help of state money the Caledonia County airport has seen some big changes inside and out.

After the passing of Manager Tom Winans in 2008, the state of Vermont took the airport over from the Vermont Pilot's Association.

The state was able to put money into the airport which the VPA just didn't have. They have purchased a new bucket loader for snow removal as well as transform the inside of the main building. "With this new facility everyone is just blown away" says manager Peter Gage, "people come in here and they can't believe the changes and how useful the space now is." The remodeling of the main building included a total overhaul which took workers from July to January to complete. Also added to the main building was a meeting room which is now used as a flying school.

The state also purchased new runway lights which pilots can control in the air says pilot Robert Jouch. "We couldn't fly at night and we would have a problem landing in not so perfect conditions. They're extremely helpful and were hoping this brings more people into the airport."

The airport currently houses 14 planes with plenty of room for more says Gage, "I would love to see more planes as well as more people come here because this airport is in a perfect setting with Burke mountain and Kingdom Trails a stones throw away. Not to mention the views are incredible."

According to Gage, plans for the future are to fix patching on the taxi ways, as well as hold another open house for the community sometime later this summer.
