Lyndon Fire BrittonLYNDON - A busy month of April for fire crews in the Northeast Kingdom has continued into May. Yesterday at around 4 p.m. fire crews responded to house fire on Speedwell Drive in Lyndon.

No one was in the house at the time the house caught fire. However, resident Britton Durham said he had many pets, all of which were lost during the blaze. Durham also said nothing was on at the time of the fire, including the washer and dryer.

Shortly after 5 p.m. an overhead ladder was deployed, to put out the remaining hot-spots. The house was deemed a total loss.

Neighbors say they heard a loud booming noise, and noticed flames soon after. Smoke was visible from at least a mile away. The fire appeared to break out in the garage section of the house. Lyndonville Fire Chief Greg Hopkins said "The garage that's attached to the house was fully involved in the fire. We did initial attack, but it had already spread to the house by the time we got the engines here with the crews."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
