Lyndon- Spring training is underway for the Lyndon Institute baseball team who took to the gym this week to start stretching out their arms and dusting off their swings. Unfortunately the Vikings wont be seeing the diamond any time soon due to the snow, but Coach Justin Smith is taking this time indoors to fine tune his teams hitting by having the guys take up to 200 swings and getting them back into the mindset of the batters box, Smith said, "we focus a lot of time on making sure they understand where they hit the ball well, and knowing in a 2-0 count, a 3-1 count, you're looking for that pitch in that area."
The Vikings graduated seven seniors last year, leaving them with a strong junior core including the lead pitcher Davis Guyer, and two seniors, one of which is already injured. For now, Coach Smith will continue to work with his seniors and juniors before adding about three or five underclassmen to round out his team, and hopefully they will be able to get outdoors to practice the defensive side of their game before the season starts.
