Lyndon Salt Budget

Lyndon Salt BudgetLYNDON - As another winter snow storm has come and gone, maintaining the roads is still a high priority. One aspect of the winter season many folks may not take into account is the budget on clearing the roads.

Luckily for Lyndon, exceeding the budget doesn't appear likely for the fiscal year of 2013.

Salt, sand, and gravel account for around 16%, and roughly $1 million, of the highway budget in the town of Lyndon. The town has spent around half of what they had expected to on clearing the roads for the year.

Town Administrator Dan Hill jokingly suggests "knocking on wood" because the town has remained on par as far as what they have spent this year. No changes appear necessary to the budget.

"We have a huge pile of sand that we buy 'x' amount of yards of every year. Some years we don't use it all and that's why the pile grows. Some years we use more than other years and the pile shrinks. So it's hard to say exactly where we are but I can tell you we are well within budget for this year."

Hill also wants to remind residents of Lyndon that the winter parking ban is still in effect. Parking on roads within the village of Lyndon is prohibited until April 15th.
