LYNDON - The Lyndon Outing Club held a March 5th meeting to discuss possible plans for the future of the once booming hill.
Only two members of the Lyndon community showed up to give input.
"We give up our weekends and our evenings to be here because we want to and were going to keep doing that," said Sue Teske speeking for herself and other members of the club's executive board who have stood by the hill as it continues to face its biggest challenge of having nearly snowless winters year after year.
This season the Outing Club was only able to open for two nights, selling only enough tickets to cover the cost of the nights operations and nothing more.
"The conditions have to be pretty good to get any amount of people up there, just because, you get a couple inches of snow on the ground dosent do it, you need more than that." said Outing Club vice president, Joe Peters.
Earlier in the year the club had explored the idea of purchasing snowmaking equipment, but failed to obtain enough signatures on a petition that would request $10,000 from the town to help fund the project. Despite failing to appear on the warning for Lyndon's town meeting, the Outing Club was given $1,000 to help with their situation.
Snowmaking isnt the only idea being bounced around for the hill's future, Teske said, "we are looking at ways to increase the year round operation of the Outing Club and see if there's ways to maximize use of the whole park into something more 'four seasons'."
Mountain biking, fittness programs, and continued use of the club's Uprise Skate Park are all ways the Outing Club can attract a crowd durring their off season, and the executive board is always open to other community suggestions.
