LYNDON - Both Lyndon Institute and St. Johnsbury Academy hosted their first regular season home games of the 2012 season at Fenton Chester Arena Wednesday night.
While both teams are beginning the season with new coaches, the outlook on the upcoming season is very different.
Lyndon lost to U-32, 7-0, at their six o'clock game at the arena. St. Johnsbury took the ice after the Vikings and commanded the game to a 5-1 win over People's Academy.
Lyndon only won three games last year which leaves first year head coach, Joel Varley, focusing on the basics.
"We're going to have to focus on defense a little bit. So essentially, this year is to teach them how to play my way, how I like the game to be played," said Varley.
St. Johnsbury Head Coach, Bob Reardon, has higher goals for his team that seemed to dominate Lyndon in last weeks scrimmage.
"Of course, sitting here, I'm going to say were going to go all the way. The skill that we have on the team goes deeper than just the seniors on the team, we have a lot of skilled players out there," said Reardon.
The strategy for these two teams could not be more different this season. Varley expects greatness from his L.I. squad in the future, while Reardon is in attack mode for this years championship. This can be expected after the Hilltoppers' early exit from the playoffs last year in round one, and the Vikings lack of a playoff win since 2000.
The rivals will meet twice this year in the regular season. Lyndon being the home team on Jan. 5 and St. Johnsbury as the home team in the final game and senior night on Feb. 27.
