Phil Scott Plants Seeds with Thaddeus Stevens Students

LYNDONVILLE- Governor Phil Scott got his hands dirty today as he and students at the Thaddeus Stevens school planted seeds in their garden. Scott said, "they've done such a terrific job and they wanted to show off what they've accomplished."

 

The Thaddeus Stevens school won a contest on behalf of the Vermont Farm to School program. "The Thaddeus Stevens school filled out a survey that we put out together with the Department of Health on behalf of the Vermont Farm to School network.

Ali Zipparo who manages the Farm to School programs says, "The Thaddeus Stevens school filled out a survey that we put out together with the Department of Health on behalf of the Vermont Farm to School network, the prize being planting with the governor."

Zipparo says that there were many schools that filled participated in the survey but Thaddeus Stevens came out on top.

Governor Scott is also very proud of the Farm to School initiative. He says his favorite part of it all is, Just the kids, and understanding that relationship to how food is produced and grown. Because many kids don't understand that. They think they go to the grocery store and thats about it, that's as far as they go and there's a lot to it. And again, it teaches them so much."
