LYNDON - After being handed the issue of looking into medical marijuana dispensaries, the Lyndon Planning Commission has not reached a final decision on how Lyndon should handle these issues.
At their latest meeting, the commission discussed four possible options for marijuana dispensaries.
In a pre-emptive measure the Lyndon Planning Commission has been discussing different ways in which the town could prepare for a medical marijuana dispensary request. There have been no requests for a medical marijuana dispensary to date.
The first option was for the town to take up an ordinance that would allow these dispensaries, the second option would create a bylaw that would prohibit medical marijuana dispensaries, the third option would call for zoning the dispensaries so they would be limited to certain areas of town, and the final option was be to do nothing.
The town wants to take the time to further explore these options, and look for feedback from residents. Only two residents showed up for the meeting, but they were actively involved in the discussion. The residents expressed their opinion; that the dispensaries were a way to expand the town's economy. One of those Lyndon residents was Caleb Teske.
" I mostly want to make sure people aren't shutting down business opportunities in the town, until we have a chance to investigate them and know more about their business models," Teske said.
The Lyndon Planning Commission will spend time getting more resident input, and speaking with towns like Stowe and Rutland, who have recently made decisions on medical marijuana. The commission will also be reviewing 50 pages of state regulations on medicinal marijuana.
