LYNDON - Senator Bernie Sanders has been here, there and everywhere talking to Vermonters about key issues he believes in. Sanders has made it a point that among his 40 visits so far, colleges and universities were among them.
He visited Lyndon State College for a rally to speak to students and faculty.
The group of listeners were eager to hear what Sanders had to say about topics such as women's rights, health care and the affordability of higher education. Students made sure their voices were heard as well and spoke about issues they felt were important. Margaret George, a Lyndon State College Senior, is a Woman's Right's Activist attended to hear Sanders. She spoke at the podium to echo Sanders.
"The intolerance and mistreatment of women all over the country are no longer going to be tolerated or ignored," George stated proudly.
Throughout the rally, Sanders made it a point to connect with students when saying how important it is for young people to get involved in politics. First time voters are just as important as longtime voters, and every vote can make a difference.
"I hope today is to convey to the young people that it's terribly, terribly important regardless of their political views. They must participate in the political process. That's what democracy is supposed to be about," Sanders said.
Lyndon State wasn't his only Vermont college he has visited on his travels, he also spoke at Johnson College and The University of Vermont. The Vermont Senator will keep visiting Vermonters up until the election.
