darling innLYNDON-The Darling Inn Apartments are ready to go under renovations in June. Renovations are going to cost about five million dollars and are being funded through both public donors such as Union Bank, and National Community Bank, along with private donors.

Merten Bangemann-Johnson, the C.E.O of Darling Inn knows that the renovations are crucial, "The Darling Inn is a historic landmark in Lyndonville and it was last renovated in 1981, over 30 years ago, and it was done very well, but 30 years later wear and tear as well as much needed energy upgrades are something that we need to address with this renovation."

Some of the energy efficient upgrades consist of building with insulation, central heating system, energy efficient lighting, and new pellet boilers.

A big issue that the renovation project will run into is the residents of the Darling Inn community.

"We have current residents in the building that we want to work around as much as we can," said Chris Holden, the director of Real Estate Development. "We don't want to have to send them away for any great length of time, it's an older, frail population here, and we primarily focused on their comfort."

Some renovations will be geared towards providing a good stay to those in wheelchairs by making the public bathrooms in the dining room and three of the apartments which will be wheelchair accessible.

According to resident Wanda Sears, she is excited for the renovations, "I just can't wait to be back in here because its going to be beautiful, things are going to be addressed in our apartments that need to be addressed."

Along with the major renovations, smaller issues such the chimney being repaired, the trim will be painted, and the repointing of the bricks will all also be addressed.
