LYNDON - The town of Lyndon is looking to purchase the Vermont Flex building and transform it into a new garage for highway crews.
The current garage is located on a flood plain and the state is concerned that ice jams and flooding could harm some of the materials located inside the building. The location of the Vermont Flex building is better because it is on top of a hill and will not face the same amount of risks that the current one does.
The move will cost about $1.7 million. $660,000 of which is to purchase the building itself, while the remaining cost will be to renovate and add on to the building. The project would be payed for through a bond.
"I think it is the right time to borrow money," said Municipal Administrator Justin Smith. "Interest rates are fairly good, so it's a good time if you're going to borrow money, now is the time to do it."
Lyndon will be issuing a warning before the decision heads to the voters, who will have a chance to vote on the project come May 7.
