LYNDONVILLE - The Wildflower Inn helped bring the Lyndon Community closer together last night with a benefit dinner for a 5-year-old leukemia patient. This benefit was a part of the Inn’s “Thankful Thursdays” which are benefit dinners put on to help give back to the community.
The community’s strength was shown when two workers at the Wildflower Inn thought they should hold the benefit dinners for Emmy Smith.
Emmy Smith, the 5-year-old daughter of Justin and Kathy Smith, who was diagnosed with leukemia, are going to be receiving benefit money from the Wildflower Inn. The Wildflower Inn had over 100 people show up and show their support for Emmy.
The Inn will be donating 25% of their profits from yesterday to the Smith family. Jim O’Reilly, the Wildflower Inn keeper, said he hopes all of the fundraising has a big impact on Emmy and it shows what a close-knit community Lyndon is.
“All of the fundraising that has been going on the last week and a half has been incredible. Just shows how strong this community is and how helpful the community is,” said O’Reilly.
The Wildflower Inn started doing the benefit dinners around 4 years ago according to Jim O’Reilly, when one local raffle was asking for a gift card. Instead, he figured the benefit dinners would be a much better way to give back than a gift card.
