guardian ad litemsVERMONT - There has been a recent desire in the Caledonia County for more Guardian Ad Litems, a Guardian Ad Litems is a group of volunteer peer advocates whom are paired with a child or a teenager that has gone through court cases in the Caledonia family court.

 

 

Volunteer Peer Advocates work closely with the children as well as their families to help guide the children down the right path.

Karen Ackermann is the program coordinator. She explained there are no prerequisite in becoming a Guardian Ad Litems, no special education or employment history needed. “We just want regular folk who are able to come to meetings, come to court, and be an advocate for the kids,” she states, “the folks here are really committed; they really care about the kids and the families.”

For those who are interested in becoming a Guardian Ad Litem should attend training sessions. On September 24th there will be an open house for people who are interested in participating in the program. The open house will serve as a meet and greet. There will also be short showings of the program. In order to be an advocate the coordinators ask for at least two year commitment at least.
