st.j school boardST. JOHNSBURY - The St. Johnsbury school board has a big choice to make about the safety of the students that attend.

If the school board decides to hire a sheriff, he or she would have the responsablity of directing traffic on Barker avenue, Western avenue, and around campus before and after school hours. However, the extra safety of the students does come at a high cost of about five thousand dollars annually.

There are crossing guards at the school daily from about 7:20 A.M. until 8:00 A.M. currently, and some St. Johnsbury residents do not believe the sheriff is necessary. The select board will be taking a closer look into the issue to settle weather the sheriff will benefit the students by keeping them safe, or just hold up traffic.
