BARNET- With Halloween just around the corner, many residents in the North East Kingdom are decorating their homes, preparing costumes for their families and purchasing plenty of candy. However, the children in Barnet do not do a door to do door trick or treat, instead they celebrate a safe trunk or treat.
This is the Barnet Libaries fourth year hosting trunk or treat. The event consists of decorating a vehicle just as you would decorate your yard or home. There will be a number of cars, trucks and even tractors with spooky decorations within the same parking lot. The kids then go around collecting treats just as if they were going around to different houses.
Many residents feel that Halloween can be a dangerous night for drivers and children who are out on the road. Barnet Selectman Ted Faris explains the benefits of having the trick or treaters in a safe area.
"I appreciate it greatly because it keeps the kids off the road. Its a tough time of year to drive with little kids jumping around and they're all excited about Halloween. Its a really safe place to do it." Faris said.
Again, in order to keep the event a safe place for children, the library is asking that you notify them if you plan on bringing a vehicle to decorate so that they know exactly who will be coming. The library also asks that you remain there until the event ends, with 150-200 expected trunk or treaters, it will be dangerous to have cars going in and out.
The event will take place at the Harvey Lake Beach parking lot from 05:00PM to 07:00PM, on October 31st.
