EAST BURKE - The Northeast Kingdom not only has a new logo, but will soon have its own mobile app.

The Northeast Kingdom Travel and Tourism Association along with the Newport Renaissance Corporation held an open meeting at Burke Mountain earlier this month to discus how the new logo and app could benifit the local area.

At the meeting Gloria Bruce, Executive Director of the NEKTTA, explained how different marketing attempts throughout the Northeast Kingdom could be solved by creating this universal logo.

"[local businesses] are all telling a little bit of a different version of the same story. Their using different aesthetics, different graphics, sometimes were the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, sometimes were Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Collectively we have a lot of marketing power, that we could organize and deploy. So, it was important for us to take a step back and do that work," said Bruce

The new logo is now up on the NEKTTA's website, appearing on the upper left side of the sites pages. The logo represents what the Northeast Kingdom is best known for in a color coded fashion, with the mountains appearing in green, boating in blue, down towns in red, and even the peaceful sway of Vermont fields in a golden yellow.

With so much to do and see here in the Northeast Kingdom, Route 802 has been working on an app that will provide both locals and tourists with almost any information you might need regarding the Northeast Kingdom. This app is expected to have a broad range of capabilties, whether that means checking weather updates, finding a bite to eat, or even just staying updated on the latest news.

Deana Rock, of Route 802 explains that it could be a good thing for rural business, "the idea is to tell people what's going on and when, and give a mobile presence to businesses that other wise don't have a mobile optimized site right now."

Route 802 hopes to launch the app as soon as possible.
