LITTLETON - Dana Jewelry on Main Street in Littleton New Hampshire was robbed this past weekend. The robbery took place sometime after the store closed at Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
While the exact amount of jewelry taken from Dana has not been released, Littleton Police Chief Paul Smith did say it was multiple thousands of dollars. "They took about two thirds of the store," said Loren Phelps, Owner of Dana Jewelry.
Phelps does believe that whoever robbed the store did pre plan for it. "They had to case the case the joint very carefully, because it was a military precision type thing. They knew what they were doing. They knew where everything was, every alarm, they knew where the cameras were, very well planned. A criminal mastermind must have done it." According to Phelps the suspects, cut power to the building smashed through the basement door with a sledge hammer. They then pulled the siren for the alarm off the wall and moved security cameras so they could not be seen, emptying almost every display case in the store and leaving a trail of dropped jewelry behind them.
The robbery this weekend is the 15th time Phelps has been robbed over the course of his ownership of multiple Dana Jewelry Stores. "I had one in Green Mountain Mall, eight years ago, one in downtown St. Johnsbury five or six years ago, and then this one. The three together are over half a million. I'm really used to it. I'm not saying I enjoy it, but I'm used to it. So I don't get upset," said Phelps.
Littleton Police are currently investigating the incident and Phelps is pleased with how the department has been handling it and their quick response. "Within an hour the entire force was here, and it was all their days off. They all came in. The Captain, the Sergeant, the Patrolmen, they all came in and worked on it all day long," added Phelps. Chief Smith also believes that the departments efforts will lead to the suspect or suspects being caught. "we are working with state police and other local law enforcement agencies on some active leads, and I feel very confident that We're going to bring this individual or individuals to justice."
While Phelps still feels the repercussions of the incident he is just thankful no one was hurt.
