NORTHEAST KINGDOM - Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years and is actually one of the 6 parts of the Orthodox of the Hindu philosophy. Yoga is a form of exercise that use mind, body, and spirit and combines them into an all in one strength, balance, and flexibility exercise. All three of which are important to a healthy lifestyle.
Tyler Eckardt, an avid Yoga enthusiast, does yoga once a week with the p90x workout, a popular workout DVD set, and he finds many benefits of doing Yoga "It's important to do if you feel like you get out of it what is necessary and important to you," Eckardt said, "(you gain) Flexibility and strength you didn't know you had, (it also gives you) calmness of mind. I have fallen asleep during my workouts".
Eckardt also thinks that it gets the person starting yoga to really think about what they want as far as health goes."Being healthy starts with the mind,"he explained.
Andrea Thibaudeau, the director of Heart and Space Yoga, says that the flexibility aspect of yoga can be intimidating but that is why people need to do it. "Often times when people think of yoga they think 'i cant do that I'm not flexible' well that's the purpose really," Thibaudeau said.
