townmeetingAROUND THE NEK - After all votes have been counted We have complete results for town meeting day in the NEK. Among the top results was Concord passing the school budget by a single vote. The Unified School District, for Wheelock and Sheffield, school budget however did not pass and will be revisited and voted on by Australian ballot. Bradford filled their empty town auditor position, electing Aaron O'Dell to a 2 year term.

Below are results for other items addressed on town meeting day: 

 

 

BARNET

  • All articles including the town budget of just over $1.1 million were passed
  • After some debate the towns school budget of $4.5 million was also passed

 

BRADFORD 

  • Aaron O'Dell was appointed to a vacant 2 year position as town auditor
  • The motion for the town to purchase a new police cruiser
  • Residents voted to show their support for both Federal and State Legislatures on banning assault weapons, high capacity magazines, and a background check for every gun sold in the United States.

 

BURKE

  • An increase in the school's budget was approved, increasing 10.6% from last year
  • The town budget increase of 9.6% was also approved
  • All other articles on the ballot were passed as well

 

CONCORD 

  • Funding to renovate the town's athletic fields did not pass
  • The $4 million school budget was passed by a single vote

 

DANVILLE

  • The town budget was approved by a margin of 147 votes
  • The requested increase in the school budget passed 139 votes yay to 60 nay
  • The 3-year deficit reduction plan in the school budget was passed, to compensate for the nearly $200,000 deficit

 

LYNDON

  • Nancy Blankenship was elected to School Director over David Cobb by 33 votes
  • Sherb Lang was elected for a 3 year term to the Lyndon School Board
  • The $11.7 million school budget also passed
  • The town waste management budget passed as well.

 

SHEFFIELD 

  • The option to use money obtained from the Sheffield wind farm to replace taxes on different portions of the town budget was voted no after moderator Patrick Ham acted as a tiebreaker of 43 votes in favor and 43 against. 
  • The town voted to use 50% of the wind farm money for the town budget and let the select board invest the other half how they see fit.

 

ST. JOHNSBURY

  • The town general fund of $2.7 million was approved by 753 votes
  • Both Jeff and Tom Moore beat out Bernie Timson for one year terms on the select board
  • Kevin Oddy will replace Rod Lamotte for the only 3 year position available 
  • The $1000 appropriation for the Lyndon Area Sports Association was the only item that did not pass 

 

SUTTON

  • All appropriation requests, including both funding to The Boot Fund and Umbrella, passed
  • Town Treasurer Debbie Ogden was reelected over Jesse Nygren, 95 to 63
  • All other elected official positions were uncontested 
  • The Sutton School budget passed by Australian ballot, 90 to 20
  • The school stipends were increased with a vote of 80 to 30

 

WHEELOCK

  • The Unified School District #37 budget was not passed by a margin of 40 votes, and will be revisited and voted on by Australian ballot 
  • After Charles RIce did not show up for town meeting or rerun for his position on the select board, Larry Taylor was elected to his position
  • A new select board chair will be elected at the next select board meeting
  • The waste management district was passed 75 to 32
