Trout Fishing Regulations

TroutPEACHAM - A change could be in store for anglers in Vermont. Joe's Pond in Westmore and Martin's Pond in Peacham contain an abundance of trout. Current regulations state that anglers may keep six fish per day, with no length requirement.

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department are purposing a new set of regulations for Job's Pond in Westmore and Martin's Pond in Peacham. The new regulations would be under the Test Waters Designation Project and would no longer allow anglers to keep an unlimited number of trout. Instead fishers will only be allowed to keep one trout per day over 15 inches, and release any others.

While these changes in regulations are large they are not being made with out reason or discussion. "We do feel that there is a very biological justification for this designation but we do want to make sure that the public is on board," said Jud Kratzer, a State Fishery Biologist. Caledonia Forest and Stream Club in St. Johnsbury will be hosting a public meeting regarding the new regulations and Test Waters Designation Project March 12 at 7pm. If the regulations are approved they will begin April 13, the start of trout season.
