Burke Mountain To Open On Saturday

burke openingBURKE - Burke Mountain delayed their opening last Friday due to the unfavorable weather and mountain conditions.

They’re expecting to open this Saturday, which is still an early open date for Burke.

People may worry that the delay would cost Burke some business, but Burke Mountain general manager Tim McGuire wasn't discouraged by the delay.  “We will have no problem at all opening up this Saturday. It’s when we’re scheduled to open up on the mountain.”

Burke Mountain will have a number of trails open and McGuire believed the customers would be happy as they go skiing in the next few weeks. “Our trail count will grow pretty quickly with these temperatures that we have,” said McGuire.

The past Friday was scheduled to be one of the earliest openings for Burke Mountain ever and even though they lost a week of business, McGuire didn't believe it would affect them too much.

McGuire said they didn't typically have a big Thanksgiving Day crowd to ski. “It’s a crowd we wanna grow in the future. We lost a little business and a little momentum, but again, with the temperatures we have right now and the amount of snow we are able to make right now, I think we’ll be able to make that up pretty quickly,” added McGuire.

The mountain has been making a lot of snow using snow guns and McGuire was confident that the mountain would be ready to be open on Saturday. McGuire hopes that the mountain can reach their goal of 90 thousand ski visits by the end of the season.
