auctionbenefitslocalbusinessAROUND THE NEK - Local businesses in the Northeast Kingdom are helping the Northeast Kingdom Travel and Tourism Association get their names out there with an online auction.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit a sustainable tourism program.

The Northeast Kingdom Sustainable Tourism program promotes eco-tourism and geo-tourism, in an attempt to bring tourist and revenue to the Northeast Kingdom. To aid the program, the Travel and Tourism association has been hosting an online auction on the Bidding For Good site.

Items in the auction include gift cards, christmas, trees, and even tickets to the anxiously awaited Caledonia County fair. Businesses in the area are supporting the association because of all of the hard work they do to get the businesses recognized. Bonnie Paris, manager of the Freighthouse in Lyndonville, explains her thoughts.

"Any way that the Northeast Kingdom is promoted benefits the community, because if you get someone to the Kingdom, obviously they are eating, shopping, and visiting places. So that's helping everyone," Paris said.

Local business owners are thankful that the association brings attention to the Northeast Kingdom and promotes all of their small local businesses. The Travel and Tourism Association's auction ends at 8 p.m. on November 15th, 2012.
