Northeast Kingdom- The annual Peacham Fall Foliage Festival kicked off today, an event that has occurred almost every year since the 1950's, and offers event-goers an array of festive activities.
Programs for the day are found at the Town Hall, and events consist of a farmers market, demonstrations form the blacksmith shop, a scenic bus tour, a ghost walk, and much more, all leading up to a spaghetti dinner at the Peacham Congregational Church and a showing of the film Spitfire Grill, a movie that was filmed in the town.
Martha Becker, one of the vendors, is a familar face around Peacham. "I come to the Peacham festival every year. I just love it. It's a lot of fun, the people are wonderful, and it's a great time."
Locals aren't the only ones enjoying the festival. Patty Meyer of San Diego, California came with her Walk-About group. "We came specifically for the fall festival to go to all the small towns and their community dinners, tours, and learn about their history."
Most of the events are free, those that cost money are the bus tour, lunch, and dinner. The full schedule of events and times is listed on Peacham's website.
Barnet also held a fall foliage festival today, that offered many events and activities as well, including a tour of Ben's Sawmill and the Goodwillie House, a pancake breakfast, and a ham dinner.
Bob Gibson of Barnet spoke to us about the festival's importance, saying that festival is important to Barnet because "we're able to pull in a lot different residents from different organizations and they all help each other make the day a good event and people can come and see the beautiful foliage and enjoy some of the sights of Barnet."
Both town festivals will continue until later tonight.
