AROUND THE NEK - Certified Naturally Grown Farms provide consumers with products that were grown without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or GMO seeds.
Farms have to pay between 150 and 200 dollars for the certification. Another farmer from the area comes to inspect the farm that wants to become a Certified Naturally Grown Farm once a year.
The inspection consists of making sure that the fertilizers they are using, aren't synthetic, along with verifying that they are not using pesticides and protectants of that nature.
Local farmer, Sue Haynie said, "The benefit of being certified naturally grown gives the customer assurance because people are more concerned. The sonsumer wants a heathier product, and for me it makes me feel confident that I can provide something to the consumer that will be healthy for them as well."
