creativenetworksST. JOHNSBURY - Members of the Northeast Kingdom community are discussing the creation of the Vermont Creative Network, designed by the Vermont Arts Council.According to their website, The Vermont Arts Council is the only designated state arts agency in the United States that is an independent, non-profit organization. Their mission is to preserve the arts in Vermont Communities.

The network is an effort by the Vermont Arts Council to connect the various artists and crafts people throughout Vermont. This project was designed because the council is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and they were encouraged by communities not just to celebrate, but to think of some sustainable plans and activities that could help lead into the next 50 years.

According the the Vermont Arts Council, the network will serve to advance the entire creative sector of the Green Mountain State using increased communication and planning, increased leverage for advocacy and funding oppotunities, increased individual and organizational capacity, and increased effectiveness with engagement in other sectors.

The council is hosting community forums throughout the state to give information and collect ideas. One forum was held at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum on April 22nd.

Zon Eastes of the Vermont Arts Council says, "Each community, each region, has a very particular culture, a very particular way of moving forward and we want to honor all of that."
