New Recall, Same Problem

honda recall1AROUND THE NEK-- Honda has announced that 105,000 additional vehicles are being added to their recall. This news comes after learning that the driver's side airbag explodes with too much force and sends metal into the car.

When the driver's side airbag inflates, it can blast apart a metal canister and release shrapnel that can seriously injure, or even kill the driver and passengers in the vehicle. There has been a report of six people who have died from this kind of accident.

The 2008 Pilots, 2004 Civics, and 2001 Accords are now being added to the list of recalls. There are nearly 89,000 Pilot's, 11,000 Civics, and 5,000 Accords that will need to be checked.

"If the car falls under the recall program, I'm sure the owners will be getting a letter in the mail requesting them to get to the dealer as soon as possible, to clarify that their car does fall under the recall program and then as quickly as possiblee go get that airbag changed out," Rory Whittemore, from Burkeview Mechanic said. "So then it's safe for the driver and the other passengers in the vehicle."

This isn't the first time Honda has recalled vehicles because of their airbags, in fact, it isn't even the only car company that has had recalls because of this issue. Over 50 cars from different companies are on the list of recalls. From Honda approximately 5.5 million cars, including Acura, have been recalled now.

For anyone with these vehicles that may have questions, you can contact your local dealership. Dealerships like Twin State Ford in St. Johnsbury, or Lamoille Vally Ford in West Hardwick, will gladly assist your needs. Deals will replace the recalled driver bag inflators for free.
