AROUND THE NEK- Vermont's unemployment rate has taken a slight leap again this September. For the fourth consecutive month the unemployment rate has risen three tenths of a percent.
This now brings the rate of unemployment in Vermont to 4.4%. Which puts Vermont 1.5% below the national average of 5.9%. These percentages are an estimate of the amount of people that are currently employed in the work place. These numbers do not include those who are unemployed and who are currently not searching for a job.
Despite these numbers, Gov. Peter Shumlin remains optimistic for the future of Vermont's unemployment rate. "It's really a diversified economic recovery, but we are excited about the fact that Vermont now is really growing jobs. We re seeing an increase in the number of folks taking jobs in Vermont. So, we just want to keep the pedal to the metal, keep moving, but we have got to keep the great momentum that we are making."
The total unemployment rate throughout New England stands at 6.1%
