Welch on Healthcare

Since President Obama's Healthcare Reform Bill has been passed, it has been met with much confusion as to exactly who it will benefit. Congressman Peter Welch explained that young adults graduating from high school or college would be staying on their parents health insurance policy for a while which will help about 35,000 young Vermonters.
However, recent graduates won't be the only ones the legislation helps cover. According to Welch, "About 20,000 small businesses are going to be eligible for tax credit to help them pay for the health care they provide for their workers. Seniors on medicare their gonna start seeing that hole, that gap of coverage fore prescription drugs between roughly $2,900 - $6,200, they're gonna see that close over time."
Lastly, Welch believes that the bill is a great kick start on the path to reform and a public option may be ultimately advantageous to the public. Welch said, "I was a strong supporter and we passed the public option in the House. I think the legislation would be better with the public option, but they were unsuccessful keeping the public option in the Senate. So yes, I continue to believe the public option would be helpful."
