Shumlin Announces Candidacy

With the previously announced departure of Governor Jim Douglas after his term ends next year, the President Pro Tem of the Vermont State Senate has declared his intenion to enter the field of candidates running to replace him.

Peter Shumlin, a Democrat, has served for more than a decade as a State Senator from Windham County. A majority of that time has been spent as President Pro Tem.

The Democratic Primary so far has four other contenders: Senators Susan Bartlett and Doug Racine, former Senator Matt Dunne, and Secretary of State Deb Markowitz.
