St. J Voters Can't Say No

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Registered Voters of St. Johnsbury gathered Monday night to review and vote on 12 of the 35 articles in the Town Report.

There seemed to be more chairs then people, as only 5% of the 4,700 registered voters attended Monday's town meeting.

The most common phrase of the night was "yay."

All 12 articles were approved by the small gathering including an adoption of service budgets for the town general and highway fund.

The $15 million dollar school budget and $3 million dollar water improvement project were the two pricer issues of the night but both passed after much debate.

Voters also passed the exemption of the town's baseball team for their taxation.

Resident will now be held responsible to pay for the non-profit share of property tax for recreational fields.

Articles 13-35 will be discussed and voted on throughout Tuesday March 3rd until 7 p.m.
