New Exhibit Coming to Town

Starting this Sunday, the NEK Artisan’s Guild located in St. Johnsbury, will display works from David Smith a local painter and Steven Bronstein, a local sculpture. Founded in September of 1997, as a cooperative craft shop for seven local artisans, the Guild has grown over the years and is a showcase for more then 100 Vermont artisans.  The organization is “dedicated to exhibiting a wide selection of fine traditional and contemporary craft in a variety of disciplines.”

all over the nation, from Vermont to California.  He creates functional pieces and blends them with sculptural ironwork.  He has been working his craft for 25 years now and his pieces range from the simple to the more extravagant.

 

David Smith, an oil painter from Peacham, Vermont, has been recognized with several

awards from “Art at the Round Barn,” in Warren, VT.  Smith studied as an undergraduate at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont.   He approaches painting abstractly using a representational framework while trying to paint light, “which is not a thing but a constantly changing elusive state.”

 

The gallery at the Guild serves as a valuable outlet for local artisans to gain publicity through exhibition and sales..  Each exhibit runs about six weeks, with Smith and Bronstein showcasing their work beginning Sunday, April 5th and running through Monday, May 18th.   The Guild is open Monday through Saturday the Guild can be found online by visiting: www.nekartisansguild.com.
