For the first time in over twenty years, downtown St. Johnsbury was crowded with people celebrating its signature agricultural product. The Maple festival is back after not being held since 1987. Venders lined the streets selling their handmade products. Governor Jim Douglas even made an appearance. Maple products define Vermont as a state, and According to Gov. Douglas “Its the state's first agricultural product of the year, and Its what people think about when they think of The Green Mountain State." He then went on to say, "In 1915 Maple Grove Farms was established in St. Johnsbury, they are now the largest packager of maple syrup and manufacturer of maple candy in the world, earning St. Johnsbury the title, Maple Capital of the World."
