The Ice is Out!
The ice is out at Joe's Pond... or is it? Thanks to some help from mother nature, the Ice Out at Joe's Pond has ended a little earlier than expected. Due to warm temperatures and some very windy conditions on the night of April 20th, the pallet and sixty pound cinder block shifted some seventy-five feet down Joe's Pond disconnecting the wires, stopping the clock. While the pallet and cinder block didn't fall through the ice and still continue to sit on the ice, it is still considered an ice out. The time that the ice went out... or over (thanks in part to the massive, floating chunk of ice) is now officially recorded as April twentieth at 10:21 PM.
This year's lucky winner was Ash Desmond of Richmond, Vermont. Desmond will walk away with nearly 5 thousand dollars and of course, bragging rights for the 2009 Joe's Pond Ice Out. This is the most money that a single winner has won since the ice out started back in 1988.
