Flood Warnings Begin
While April showers can bring May flowers... snowy grounds can flood the towns.
A flood watch was issued for Wednesday, March 11th with a total rain fall expected to reach a half an inch.
Much like last year, residents and business owners around the Northeast Kingdom are preparing for this year's flood season.
With the ground already saturated, any additional melting could mean damages for some.
This same time last year, East Burke experienced what is known as a flash flood.
Heavy rains and snow melting was the cause of a nearby stream bank to overflow, flooding the basements of nearby businesses.
One store in particular lost products last year and is already beginning to prepare for what's to come.
"It's just a lot of small things basically. We have our ski tuner equipment down there and some inventory. Not really much. Most of it's upstairs. So it was really just a lot of small stuff. You know it's a dirt floor basement down there, so we are really lucky. It could have been a lot worse," said Adam Lavigne, an East Burke Sports employee.
Area's most affected by possible Spring flooding will be those located in the lower grounds.
Employees at East Burke Sports urge homeowners and other businesses in the nearby area to be prepared.
"Weigh out your options and see what you can do and hope it doesn't happen again," said Lavigne.
National Weather Service officials have suggested that residents of the Northeast Kingdom monitor radio and television stations for possible updates on flooded areas.
