Electronic Report Cards

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
The end of each grading term can be a very busy time for teachers. There are grades to tally, assignments to be mark and weighted averages to compute. Not to mention completed evaluations about each student’s attitude and behavior. These traditional pieces of paper sent home to Mom and Dad may be thrown out the window for good, with a move to the growing digital world.

Several schools around Chittenden County and the state of Vermont are making the switch from paper to electronic report cards. The program for this new method includes a complete grade book with attendance records, credits earned, and a computed overall grade point average.

Teachers aren’t the only ones affected by this new form of organization. Parents and students in the NEK agree that viewing grades with just the click of a button will make a difference.

Bonnie Gadapee, a Technology Instructor at both Lyndon State College and Lyndon Town School, talks about the possible benefits of this transition.
