Boys and Girls Club in the NEK

The nationwide Boys and Girls Club of America could be making its way to Lyndonville. The Northeast Kingdom is the only part of Vermont without a program. Lyndonville trustees gave their approval to club representatives this week to begin the application and grant process.
Sue Teske and Mike Ferrant presented their ideas on how a Boys and Girls Club would be beneficial to local youth. The Board went on to say that this was a perfect opportunity to give local kids more structured activities.
Now that the Village has approved the creation of the club, Teske and Ferrant will begin to apply for grants upwards of $117,000 to get the club underway. The pair also commented on the sustainability of Boys and Girls Clubs, reminding the Board that once established the club can support its self without burdening the tax payers.
The goal of the Boys and Girls Club is to prevent delinquency, and provide substance abuse programs, and give local youth a safe place to spend free time. The club will be based in Lyndonville but serve all NEK communities. Discussion on the exact location for the organization is still underway. There will be an information meeting on the club coming to town on Friday May 8th at 7:30pm in the Lyndonville Municipal Building.
