A mathematical error by the state education department has moved the St. Johnsbury School to the bottom of the list for NECAP Testing. This might help the school financially, but overall it does hurt the state.
Nicole Saginor, St. Johnsbury School Superintendent said, "I received a call this Monday morning from commissioner Vilaseca and he notifies me that due to a miscalculation on their part St. Johnsbury fell within the 10-lowest performing schools."
Saginor says the commissioner assured her that the states error makes the St. Johnsbury School eligible for additional assistance. Saginor also said "He just reiterated that we would be, that we would be hearing from the state in terms of the supports that would be offered to us, the required actions that we would have to take
Saginor was disappointed because she believes things at the school have improved.
Saginor, "We feel that we have made progress. If the progress has not been sufficient then, it's up to us to look, um, look again at what we're doing and see what else we need to add.
Although the St. Johnsbury School is one of the lowest scoring in the state they can look forward to about $600,000 worth of federal funding that will help them to improve their program.
