Christian School on the Move
A small Christian school in St. Johnsbury will be changing locations after spending 60 years in the same place. The Caledonia Christian School has been on Southard Street since 1952, but will soon find a home inside of the Christian Science Church on Main Street.
This topic was addressed in detail at Monday night’s select board meeting.
"Since we're on a little small street in a small part of town, we're not able to reach that many people. We're looking forward to two things; a location that's much more visible, easier to get to, and has a lot more space", said Jim Kendall, a member of the school board.
However, not everyone was in favor of the move. Some wondered if there would be adequate parking, along with use of a recreational facility. Others worried about the possible dangers of parents picking up their kids next to a busy, narrow roadway.
"There’s no parking, there's no place for a playground and there's a loading zone in front of the church. When and if we re-develop main street- we'll have an even bigger safety issue” said Dennis Straight, a St. Johnsbury resident.
The school currently has six children and will continue to operate five days a week during normal school hours.
"We're excited about our school and what it has to offer students, so we look forward to anybody stopping by to see how we're doing”, said Kendall.
The school’s move was approved in a unanimous vote, however all plans are yet to be finalized.
