Welch Resigns
Mike Welch resigned as the St. Johnsbury Town Manager at a special meeting on Tuesday night. "It's a personal decision", says Select board member Jim Rust, "But it is a huge loss to the town and some huge boots to fill."

Welch resigned because he was becoming increasingly frustrated with the way things were going in the town including the failed town budget.  Welch was also not in favor of removing Joel Schwartz, St Johnsburys head of economic development.  "I think this last year or so has probably been the biggest challenge that I've ever faced in municipal government and I've never seen anything like it, I really hope that the community comes out of it better than they are now."

The select board is looking to temporarily replace Welch's position until the town hires a new manager. Welch's last day will be May 7th.
