The nationwide Boys and Girls Club of America could be making its way to Lyndonville.  The Northeast Kingdom is the only part of Vermont without a program.  Lyndonville trustees gave their approval to club representatives this week to begin the application and grant process.

Water Repairs

A broken water main in St. Johnsbury forced the water department to shut off the towns water supply until it can be fixed.  While the water is shut off the town will draw off of its tanks but if those run dry before the repairs are finished the town could be without running water.

The dicentennial census isn’t slated to begin its information gathering operations until 2010, but you may see census agents working in your area over the next few months.  The Vermont census bureau began its address canvassing operations on April 20th and plans to continue this vital part of the national head count until early July.

On Earth Day, the green marketing company Earthsence released its top ten list of "greenest" states.  Vermont topped the list as the greenest and is ranked number one in the nation.  The list was established by determining which state had the most people with eco-friendly tendencies.

The Senior Action Center decided that they needed a garden to be built so that residents could grow produce in the Center's yard.  Many new gardens spring up this time of year, however this one was constructed by workers who want to give back to the community.

Former U.S. Senator and Vermont Governor George Aiken is the man who first coined the term Northeast Kingdom.  Now some of Aiken's offspring call the area home.  Residents of the NEK and relatives of the man known simply as "Governor" gathered in Montpelier to mark to 60th anniversary of the phrase, and celebrate the life style and beauty of The Kingdom.

Lyndonville - The Northeast Kingdom is no Stranger to snow-filled roads.  But where does all that snow go when the roads are cleared?  For years the town of Lyndonville has been taking snow from the roads and dumping it in Powers Park, right next to the Passumpsic River.

Sheffield - Eight Months ago Sheffield lost its one hundred and forty eight year old Federated Church when it was struck by lightning.  On March 8th they took the first step to rebuilding by accepting a land donation where a new Sanctuary can be built.

One of those issuses was the deduction of 10 to 40-thousand dollars on a homestead appraisal for veterans.

A second police officer and a new dumptruck will be coming to the town of Bradford. Citizens of the town voted to expand the police department by adding a second officer.

A Sheffield resident expressed his concern and would not accept the reports of several town offices because he thought that the set up and wording of the annual town report was too confusing for the common person to understand, however residents voted to accept the reports as written.

Long time Barnet Town Clerk Bill Hoar steped down from the election this year.  Ben Heisholt won the election to fill the Town Clerk position wich along with the vote to add additional positions to the select board highlited the Barnet Town Meeting.
