The National Weather Service in Burlington has declared this week National Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Since severe weather doesn't occur in the northeast usually until the summer months, meteorologists from offices all across the Northeast and New York thought it would be best to use this week in early May to prepare families for potentially severe weather down the road.

A fatal car accident during the early morning hours on Monday near Bradford has left one young man dead.

25-year-old Joseph Malikowski of Illinois was traveling south on Interstate 91 when he allegedly drifted into the median and hit a guardrail, causing the vehicle to flip several times.

Last Monday night the St. Johnsbury School Board approved a revised budget totaling $197,759 in cuts.  Among those cuts were several full and part time teaching positions adding up to just over $60,000, and a $65,000 reduction in the high school tuition budget next year.

She said that if the town builds a lot of affordable housing in Littleton, "there is this idea that a boat will land in Miami and a truckload of Haitians will move in."
