PEACHAM - A chimney fire sparked just off 3013 Taylor Rd at the Heavensent Farm Wednesday. Ten fire trucks responded to the scene to extinguish the billowing flames. Several fire departments including Peacham, St. Johnsbury, Danville and Barnet showed up to the scene.

Trees, Power Lines Down in Sheffield

SHEFFIELD - Wild weather toppled trees and power lines in Sheffield around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. High winds caused a large tree to fall onto five power lines, blackening part of the town and cutting off power to a streetlight at the intersection of Route 122 and Berry Hill Road.

VERMONT - High winds from yesterdays storm caused about 30,000 power outages Wednesday evening. Several hundred of those outages occurred in Caledonia and Essex Counties.

SHEFFIELD - The Ridge Protectors group in Sheffield were again halted from appealing the construction of 16 wind turbines on Granby Mountain. The Vermont Environmental Court denied their appeal for construction of the project.

ST. JOHNSBURY - Two student Lego building robot teams from the St. Johnsbury School participated in the regional competition on Saturday at Dartmouth College. The Robo Rebels won first place in the design portion of the competition, while the Cyber Freaks had a strong showing as well.

NEWPORT - The Commission on Native American Affairs met at the Goodrich Memorial Library Tuesday afternoon to address questions from the public and recognize several tribes into the commission. The commission consists of 9 Native Americans from all different tribes through out the state. The public forum was the third of five taking place all over the state.

ST. JOHNSBURY - The oldest Grange Hall in New England is up for sale. The Green Mountain Grange Hall in St. Johnsbury has been on the market for the past year and a half. The Hall was originally built in 1871.

BURLINGTON - This year marked one of the closest Governors races in the history of Vermont. The candidates, Republican Brian Dubie and Democrat Peter Shumlin were in a close race through out the night on Tuesday, but results weren't released until late Wednesday morning.

MONTPELIER - Republican Phil Scott was announced as Vermont's new Lieutenant Governor late Tuesday night. The five-term Senator from Washington County maintained about an 8 to 10 percent lead over Democratic Rep. Steve Howard winning with 49 percent of the vote.

MONTPELIER - Republican Candidate Tom Salmon was elected for his third term as State Auditor late Tuesday. He beat Democratic Candidate Doug Hoffer by over 13,000 votes. Salmon of St. Johnsbury, maintained a lead of a few margins through out the night.

LFD Halloween Bash

LYNDONVILLE - The Lyndonville Fire Department is hosting their annual Halloween Gathering Sunday Night. The event usually draws between five to six hundred people.But the firemen aren't the ones who host the event, it's the Lyndonville Auxiliary Club. The club is made up of wives or significant others of members of the Lyndonville Fire Department.

Lyndon Cemetery Expansion?

LYNDON CENTER - Lyndon town select board members are gathering information on the possibility of expanding the town's cemetery located adjacent to the Lyndon Institute campus in Lyndon Center.

According to Town Clerk Lisa Barrett, there are currently 40 four-person and 13 two-person lots remaining on the premises.
