WHEELOCK- Lyndon Institute students were released early this morning when school headmaster, Rick Hilton notified them that they had lost a beloved classmate. 17 year old Jacob Kadamus was killed early this morning in hunting accident when his father accidentally shot him. A preliminary investigation revealed that Jacob had apparently left his original hunting area and crossed into his father's unknowingly. Kevin Kadamus discharged his gun shooting at what he believed to be a turkey, but instead struck his son.

National Walk at Lunch Day took place Wednesday, April 29th in St. Johnsbury. Volunteers all over the United States try to convince people that physical activity and a healthy lifestyle will make life that much more enjoyable. So next time you think you're too busy to exercise, think again. Try packing a sandwich, a bottle of water and get out for a quick walk.

Lyndon Institute played host to a benefit dance recital on Thursday night.  This recital included five dance companies, twenty different dances, and about one hundred dancers from around the Northeast Kingdom.  The dances ranged from tap to hip-hop to ballet.
Captain Phillips Rescued

The Maersk Alabama cargo ship, which was seized by pirates on April 8th off the coast of Somali, returned to the states yesterday.  The crew returned to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland Thursday, however Captain Phillips who was held hostage for five days was not with his crewmembers.

In 1957 a joint committee made up of American Library Association members and the American Book Publishers Council came together and suggested to have the first National Library Week, this event was held on May 16th though 22nd with a theme of “Wake Up and Read”.  This annual event has continued ever since, this year, April 12th though 18th marks National Library Week with a theme of “Worlds Connect at your Library”,

Starting this Sunday, the NEK Artisan’s Guild located in St. Johnsbury, will display works from David Smith a local painter and Steven Bronstein, a local sculpture. Founded in September of 1997, as a cooperative craft shop for seven local artisans, the Guild has grown over the years and is a showcase for more then 100 Vermont artisans.  The organization is “dedicated to exhibiting a wide selection of fine traditional and contemporary craft in a variety of disciplines.”

A three year old from Wasilla, Alaska is getting more than just love from her grandparents, Joyce and Ernest Racenet from Danville.  At sixteen months, Caitlin was diagnosed with an incurable disease know as Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.  This disease can cause one to have anywhere from six to thirty seizures in a day.

For the 48th time Dorreen Devenger or “Momma” as many residents know her as, was reelected as Suttons Town Clerk.  However over in Danville Wendy Somers is still learning the ropes, as she became an interim Town Clerk last term when Virginia Morse stepped down.

SAINT JOHNSBURY- Residents of Caledonia County may be seeing a tax increase this year due to a recent lawsuit filed by Michelle Poleo-Keefe against the county, claiming she was wrongfully terminated.

Residents of St. Johnsbury might be able to vote solely by Australian ballot on Town Meeting Day of 2010. The idea was brought up to the Select Board Monday night and the decision has been made to let the voters choose whether or not to adopt this style of voting.
