On February 23, 2010 news broke of a shooting in Littleton, Colorado at the Deer Creek Middle School. Due to a brave teacher who jumped on the shooter, only 2 students were injured.

Although the middle school in Colorado is over two thousand miles away from Lyndonville Vermont, and while the Northeast Kingdom hasn't experienced a school shooting, the local schools are constantly monitoring to ensure their students' safety.

Leaving your car running while making a quick stop at the local gas station may soon be illegal. Idle-Free Vermont, is a non-profit, grassroots campaign that has formed a partnership with The American Lung Association, Green Mountain Coffee and The Sierra Club in hopes of making Vermont idle-free.

Friday, February 5, 2010 marked another Go Red for Women Day, a day where red clothing is worn in order to raise awareness for heart health.  Heart Disease is often referred to as the silent killer in women.  The word silent is used because many symptoms of heart disease and heart attacks are very different for men and women. After hearing the shaking news about the devastation left in Haiti after the January 12, 2010 earthquake, local students from St. Johnsbury Academy used the knowledge they learned in class to raise money for Doctors Without Borders, a humanitarian organization that offers medical aid to countries whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe.
