On February 23, 2010 news broke of a shooting in Littleton, Colorado at the Deer Creek Middle School. Due to a brave teacher who jumped on the shooter, only 2 students were injured.

Although the middle school in Colorado is over two thousand miles away from Lyndonville Vermont, and while the Northeast Kingdom hasn't experienced a school shooting, the local schools are constantly monitoring to ensure their students' safety.

Residents of Saint Johnsbury are doing things a little different this year regarding Town Meeting Day. During last year's meeting voters decided to change the format of the meeting to an Australian Ballot.

The town of Kirby is looking to save money. Due to overcrowding in office buildings such as the Town Office, the town is hoping to figure out a way to create more space. One prospective idea would be to construct some new buildings.  With the town budget down due to a surplus in the road department, where will the money come from?

School is not just for reading, writing and arithmetic anymore.

Students of the new Fashion Design course at Lyndon Institute showed off what they have been learning on the catwalk.

Island Pond residents may not see airplanes coming out of their airport anymore. Instead they may see wood. The John H.Boylan State Airport in Brighton could be sold to Vermont Biomass Energy Company who would use the land to produce wood pellets.

It is that time of year again, the time when most people either await eagerly for their checks to arrive or dread because it may mean one more added expense and the act of sitting down and filing your taxes take time out of an already busy schedule.

Friday, February 5, 2010 marked another Go Red for Women Day, a day where red clothing is worn in order to raise awareness for heart health.  Heart Disease is often referred to as the silent killer in women.  The word silent is used because many symptoms of heart disease and heart attacks are very different for men and women. Chest pain is not always evident.

After hearing the shaking news about the devastation left in Haiti after the January 12, 2010 earthquake, local students from St. Johnsbury Academy used the knowledge they learned in class to raise money for Doctors Without Borders, a humanitarian organization that offers medical aid to countries whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe.
