ST. JOHNSBURY-Saint Johnsbury Academy has a finalist in an essay contest sponsored by United States Senator Bernie Sanders.

Giovanina Mier, a senior at Saint Johnsbury Academy, has earned honorable mention and has been named a finalist in the contest that included essays submitted by over three hundred high school students across the country.  The essay was to be written about what is a major issue facing the United States.

Meir said "I feel like it would be easier if we could get stuff done by working together rather than just fighting each other all the time; the Republicans and Democrats pitted against each other. That would facilitate a lot more change."

She also went onto write within her essay "To restore our country to prosperity and success that will extend to all Americans, we must listen to both the minority and majority."

The essay was not mandated, just an optional assignment assigned by U.S Government and Economics teacher Richard Walden.
