New Sherriff in Town

Dean Shatney, a long time Vermont Deputy, has been named the new sheriff. Shatney has been working for the Sheriffs Department for the last 14 years and is currently a captain. When the current sheriff announced his retirement he made it clear who he wanted to take his place.
When asked about his future Shatney said "A few years back, Mike called me into his office and asked where I saw my career with the department going. I told him I had 2 goals, one short term and one long term. My short term was to become captain and chief deputy. My long term, I told him, was to become sheriff."
Shatney accomplished his first goal a few weeks after there conversation but was still looking at his long term goal.
He will be replacing long-time Sheriff Michael Bergeron, who has been the Sheriff for 13 years.
Bergeron says he wouldn't change a thing throughout his law enforcement career. He is confident that now is the time for him to end his career, "When it's time, you know it. I finally feel like I can say 'I don't want to come to work anymore'. When you do something you love for so long, you truly know when it's time to be done."
Shatney will replace Bergeron at the end of his term.
